Product Description

Product Description:

The Logix® 520MD digital positioner is a state-of-the-art device that offers not only superior positioning and tuning functions, but also a set of powerful diagnostic tools. With this innovative positioner, industrial users can enjoy reliable and precise control over a variety of actuators and mechanisms.

One of the key advantages of the Logix 520MD is its use of a multi-variable gain tuning algorithm. This provides the positioner with the ability to make large step changes with minimal overshoot, while also maintaining the resolution to respond to very small step changes. Through the use of the Auto-tune procedure, the positioner is capable of cycling the actuator to produce a measured response and automatically selecting gain values that provide appropriate performance.

The Auto-tune function on the Logix 520MD also includes a gain modifier selector, which users can utilize to increase or decrease the calculated gain in order to achieve optimal performance. In addition to this, the positioner offers DIP switch configuration for tuning mode and other common settings, allowing for easy and efficient setup and customization.

For those with specialized settings or unique applications, the Logix 520MD enables custom tuning sets that can be easily modified with a handheld device or with ValveSight™ software. This makes it possible to accommodate a wide range of actuator sizes and types, further enhancing the versatility and flexibility of this exceptional digital positioner.

Applications:

Power

Power generation is the process of converting energy from various sources into electricity. There are many different methods of power generation, including:

  • Conventional Steam: This method involves using coal, natural gas, or oil to heat water and produce steam, which then drives turbines to generate electricity.
  • Combined Cycle: This method uses both gas and steam turbines to generate electricity and is more efficient than conventional steam.
  • Concentrated Solar Power (CSP): This method uses mirrors or lenses to focus the sun's rays onto a small area, which produces highly concentrated heat that can generate electricity.
  • Biomass & MSW: Biomass refers to organic material such as wood, agricultural waste, and municipal solid waste (MSW) that can be burned to generate electricity.
  • Geothermal: This method uses heat from the earth's core to produce steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity.
Chemicals

The chemical industry is an important part of the modern economy, producing a wide range of products for various applications. There are two main categories of chemicals:

  • Basic (Organic & Inorganic): Basic chemicals include substances such as acids, solvents, and salts that are used as inputs in various manufacturing processes.
  • Specialty (Fine & Consumer): Specialty chemicals are high-value products that are used in smaller quantities, such as pharmaceuticals and other specialty products.

In addition, the chemical industry also plays a role in the development of biofuels, which are created from renewable sources such as corn, sugar cane, and soybeans. Some pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals are also produced by the chemical industry.

Water

Water is a critical resource for many industries and is essential for human life. There are several aspects of water management:

  • Water Management: This includes the treatment, storage, and distribution of water for various uses, such as drinking, irrigation, and industrial processes.
  • Wastewater: The treatment and disposal of wastewater is also an important aspect of water management to protect the environment and human health.
  • Agriculture & Irrigation: Water is used for irrigation in agriculture to grow crops and raise livestock, and it is important to manage water resources carefully to avoid depletion and overuse.
  • Flood Control System: Water can also be a destructive force, and flood control systems are necessary to protect against natural disasters.
Oil & Gas

The oil and gas industry plays a major role in the global economy, providing energy for transportation and electricity generation. There are three main aspects of the industry:

  • Upstream Exploration & Production: This involves finding and extracting oil and gas reserves from the earth through drilling and other processes.
  • Midstream Transportation: Once extracted, oil and gas must be transported to refineries and other processing facilities for further treatment and distribution.
  • Downstream Processing: Once refined, the oil and gas is used for various applications, including transportation and electricity generation.
General Industries

There are many other industries that contribute to the global economy:

  • Pulp & Paper: This industry is involved in the production of paper and other wood-based products.
  • Steel & Primary Metals: This industry is involved in the production of steel and other metals for various applications.
  • Food & Beverage: This industry is involved in the production of food and beverages for human consumption.
  • Corn Wet Milling & Ethanol: This industry produces ethanol from corn, which is used as a fuel for transportation.
  • Other Industries: There are many other industries that contribute to the economy, including textiles, plastics, electronics, and more.
Mining

Mining is the process of extracting minerals and other valuable materials from the earth. This can include metals, coal, precious stones, and more.

There are several types of mining:

  • Surface mining: This involves removing the top layer of soil and rock to access the minerals beneath.
  • Underground mining: This involves tunneling into the earth to access the minerals.
  • Placer mining: This involves mining for minerals in riverbeds and streams.
